Meet the Staff
Who we are
| Sheila |
Sheila is the Library Director for the entire county. She is the one who makes sure the libraries in the district are running smoothly. Sheila supervises all other employees and makes sure everyone is doing their job. If you need to speak to the person in charge, talk to Sheila. | |
| Maggie |
Maggie is our computer gal. She makes sure the public and private computers are functioning and up to date - not only for The Dalles Library but also for all other libraries in the district. She also orders new books and other library materials for the District. Maggie enjoys answering questions about cookbooks, cats or other basic reference questions. |
|
| Lorna |
Lorna devotes a lot of time to our Genealogy section so ask her any questions you may have about the local history of the city and it's citizens. Lorna also helps the Friends of the Library book sale and has an impressive knowledge of where practically every book is in this library. Lorna is also in charge of mailing out the late fee reminders. |
|
| Barbara |
Barbara does a lot of the cataloging here as well as programming for our teenage population. She is knowledgeable in many different areas in the library but is especially fond of sci-fi literature, history, biographies and pop science. Barbara also combs through the shelves to "weed" out any worn out books to discard or replace. |
|
| Sue Ann |
Sue Ann not only coordinates our volunteers, but she is also in charge of interlibrary loans and managing our magazine subscriptions. She loves reference questions and can also speak Spanish. |
|
| Tara |
Tara is the webmistress of this website. She also assists with library programs, creating promotional materials and helps out in Cataloging. Tara maintains the children's collection and can answer questions about children's literature and more. |
|
| Lou |
Among other things, Lou coordinates cataloging the library materials for the district. When books, cds, DVDs/VHS get ordered/donated she makes sure everything is entered into the computer correctly so things can get checked out. Lou also creates promotional materials that can be found around the library. |
|
| Suzy |
Suzy specializes in the children's section. She is our Story Time lady for the Preschool age Story Time as well as for the Summer Reading Program. Suzy also does a lot of outreach work for children programming in various towns. Suzy is the one who picks out what new books, cds and books on tape/cd come into the children's section (the E books, J books and YA books). |
|
| Kathy |
Kathy assists with library programs as well as with a variety of front desk duties. She also spends time processing and mending books and other media. She is the "Library Lady" for the pre-school "Great & Small" and conducts story times for five separate classes with ages from eighteen months to six years. She has a Music/Library Science degree and incorporates music whenever she can with the kids. In the past twenty years, she has worked in larger libraries but just loves the Gorge, and has been at home here for ten years. |
|
| Heidi | Heidi is our new events coordinator for children. She will be in charge of thinking up all sorts of fun things for the children in the community to do. Heidi is also the new Story Time Lady for the Toddler Story Time and has a fantastic personal collection of puppets! She loves helping children find books on any topic they may be interested in, fiction or non fiction. |
|
| Rita |
Rita is in charge of developing and coordinating events for the adults in the community. She is also bringing in guest speakers from the Oregon Council of Humanities via Oregon Chautauqua. Rita is a great person to ask for help in remembering that book you really liked when you were a child but can no longer remember the title or author. Ask Rita - she enjoys the challenge! |
